Getting started
How do I export an iMessage conversation?
Pick the conversation and click Export. You get a clean text file of the whole thread, ready to read or hand to an AI like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. No Terminal, no PDF wrangling.
Can I export an entire iMessage conversation, including old messages?
Yes. Lembic reads your full local Messages history, so you can export a whole thread or just a date range.
How do I get my texts into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini?
That’s the whole point. Export, click Copy, and paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc. You can send a one-click prompt along with it, like “summarize this relationship.”
Do I need an iPhone plugged in?
No. Lembic reads the Messages history already synced to your Mac. Nothing needs to be connected.
I can’t find something after the update. How do I see the tour again?
Choose Help › Show Introduction to see the tour again. Help › What’s New in Lembic shows what changed in 1.1. For step-by-step help, open Lembic Help (⌘?).
Can I go back to 1.0.1?
Yes. Download Lembic 1.0.1 and replace the app in your Applications folder. You may need to turn on Full Disk Access for it again. Redactions you made in 1.1 may not show in 1.0.1, because 1.1 saves them in a new way. Features that are new in 1.1, such as My Prompts and Quick Copy, are not in 1.0.1.
Privacy & safety
Is it safe? Do my messages get uploaded?
No. Lembic reads your messages and builds the transcript on your Mac. It never uploads your messages, and there is no account. Lembic goes online only to check your license and to look for updates. The export engine is open source, so you can verify exactly what it does instead of taking our word for it.
Why does it need Full Disk Access?
macOS keeps your Messages database behind Full Disk Access, the same switch you grant Time Machine and other backup tools. You grant it once, and you can revoke it anytime in System Settings.
Why can’t Lembic read my messages after an update?
Lembic 1.1 has a new developer signature, and macOS links Full Disk Access to that signature. So the old switch can look on but no longer work. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, select Lembic, and remove it with the minus (−) button. Then add it back with the plus (+) button, turn it on, and reopen Lembic.
Pricing & details
Is it a subscription?
No, it’s a one-time purchase. Pay once and your exports are yours for good. Until November 30, the founding price is 50% off with code FOUNDING50.
Does it export to PDF?
The core export is built for AI, so it’s clean, token-efficient text rather than a PDF. Need other formats? The Pro plan adds PDF, Word, Excel, and CSV, and Export All Conversations. If you only want a printout for legal or archival use, a plain PDF exporter may be all you need.
Do I need to pay again for 1.1?
No. If you bought Lembic, every update is free, and that includes 1.1. The new prices are only for new buyers.
Lembic asks me to check my license after the update. Why?
Lembic 1.1 checks each license one time after the update. This check does not use one of your Mac slots. Connect to the internet and click Check Again. If a firewall app blocks the check, allow activate.textstoai.com.
All my Macs are used. What do I do?
One license works on 3 Macs. To free a slot, open Lembic on a Mac you no longer use and choose Lembic › License › Deactivate this Mac. If you do not have that Mac, remove it on the devices page at activate.textstoai.com.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Lembic has a 30-day money-back guarantee, for any reason. Email [email protected] within 30 days of your purchase.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
Try it on one conversation.
Free to download. Pay once when you export.
