Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 18, 2026
Lembic is built around a simple idea: your messages are yours, and they should never leave your Mac. Lembic is made by Contemplative Software LLC (Missouri, USA). This policy explains the small amount of data we handle.
Your messages never leave your Mac
The Lembic app runs entirely on your Mac. It has no account, and it never sends your messages, contacts, or exports anywhere. When you export a conversation, the transcript is created locally and stays on your device until you choose to copy or save it. The export engine is open source, so you can verify this rather than take our word for it.
When you take an export to an AI service like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, you do so through your own account with that provider. From that point on, that provider’s privacy policy governs whatever you paste or upload. We are not involved in, and have no visibility into, that step. (See our Acceptable Use Policy for how to share exports safely.)
Licensing is the one thing the app sends
Unlocking Lembic requires a license, and checking it is the only time the app talks to a server:
- When you enter your license key, the app contacts our licensing service once to activate it, then re-checks now and then that it’s still valid.
- That check sends only your license key and a one-way hash of a hardware identifier, which we use to limit a key to a few devices. It’s a hash, so we can’t turn it back into your hardware ID.
- It never sends your messages, contacts, or exports. The app has no way to.
Purchases and license keys are handled by Polar (our payment processor and merchant of record); activations run through our own Cloudflare Worker. Polar collects the information needed to process your payment (such as email and billing details) under their privacy policy.
This website
The website (textstoai.com) handles one small thing:
- Analytics. We use PostHog in cookieless mode. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser’s storage, so there’s no consent banner, because there’s nothing to consent to. It counts aggregate traffic with a privacy-preserving, server-side hash. It does not track you across sites or build a profile of you.
We don’t use advertising trackers, and we don’t sell any data.
Your choices
- Request deletion of the purchase/license data held for your order by emailing us (we’ll coordinate with Polar where they’re the record-keeper).
